Portafolios como materiales para el desarrollo de la escritura en una segunda lengua

Un aspecto del aprendizaje y la enseñanza del inglés que siempre me ha inquietado como maestro tiene que ver con el material que se implementa y si este permite alcanzar los objetivos de la clase. Creo que el problema radica en que no es fácil establecer las características que debe tener el material para que, al mismo tiempo, motive al estudiante y aporte a su proceso cognitivo. Básicamente, los materiales son definidos como casi cualquier cosa que contribuya con los procesos de aprendizaje de los estudiantes (Tomlinson, 2011). Pero difícilmente un maestro puede de manera intuitiva definir cuáles son las características que el material debe tener, se requiere de todo un análisis de la población, las necesidades, el contexto, el nivel de inglés, entre otros, para tener la certeza de que el material es acertado.

Writing to Learn to Teach in Teaching Education Programs

The current need for teacher education programs to become more responsive to the needs of the communities and mainly to support the preparation of future teachers for the challenges of the classrooms has led to development of reflective practices in their curricula. One way teacher education programs are structuring these reflective practices is through tasks that involve different forms of writing. In order to understand the place these tasks have in the overall curriculum it is important to understand their purposes to then explore the different forms they take.

Portfolios Focused on Controversial Issues to Expand Argumentative Writing Skills

This article describes how the implementation of teacher designed portfolios favor the development of students’ argumentative writing skills in English. It presents the main concepts of argumentative writing skills and explains how the implementation of controversial issues contributes to the development of these abilities. Finally, it presents how the teacher-designed portfolios benefits students’ writing process.
